A shop born out of a minor obsession with plants

Founded in 2022, The Plant Ness Monster is a licensed nursery in the heart of the beautiful Sonoma County wine country in Northern California.  My nursery is the result of my longtime plant collection turned business.  Inspired by my childhood nickname Ness and the mythical creature the Loch Ness Monster, the shop name The Plant Ness Monster was born.

I specialize in rare aroids and unique houseplants that you can’t find in your typical big box store.  As a small scale nursery, each one of the plants I sell is raised with the utmost care by me, Ness.  I look forward to sharing my jungle with you!

  • Care

Each species of plant has different requirements to stay happy and healthy. If you have any questions about how to care for your new plant, feel free to ask! I am here to help make sure you are successful with your new plant baby!

  • What makes my shop different?

I pride myself on growing each individual plant with love and shipping it with care so it arrives safely to its new home.  If you have any questions or concerns about your new plant, don’t hesitate to reach out so I can help.

  • Benefits

Some of the key benefits of owning house plants include: improved air quality, reduced stress levels, improved sense of well-being, support of cognitive health, improved environmental wellness + more

About Me

Hi there!  My name is Vanessa, but I go by Ness or Nessie.  I’m a pediatric nurse by day and a plant wizard by night. My passion for growing and collecting plants has grown over the years, and I am a self-proclaimed plant science and biology nerd.  I have finally decided to take the leap into selling plants so I can share my jungle with you.

In addition to nursing and plants, I am a wife and proud girl mom, as well as mom to our three resident “jungle cats” (house cats).  I love teaching my kids about gardening and watching them pick fruit from our backyard orchard, as well as teaching them how to care for the tropical plants in our home.  Anywhere our family travels, you can be sure to find us exploring the local botanical gardens or nurseries.

Caring is in my nature, for both the people and plants I care for.  In a lot of ways, care requirements for plants and people are similar.  Just like plants, we humans require sunlight, hydration, nutrition, and of course some TLC to thrive, and often our health is a reflection of the environment around us.  Plants have proven health benefits, such as reduced stress and improved blood pressure.  When you care for plants, they also care for you in return.
